Joe Addison The 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day Association is happy to announce the Theme Contest Winners. They are: First Place, "A Dream of Change, A Future of Accomplishment", by Brittany Strobert of Robert W. Groves High School, 12th grade; Second Place, "One Man, One Dream, Our Future" by Dajure Robinson of Robert W. Groves High School, 9th grade; Third Place, "Excellence Outweighs Longevity when Making Dreams Come True by Malcolm Gordon, of Butler Elementary School, 5th grade. Theme winners will be recognized at all events and activities.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance Day Association is pleased to invite everyone to attend our Annual Honoree’s Reception on Sunday, December 13, at 6:00 p.m. In the King- Frazier Ballroom at Savannah State University.

Our Parade Marshals are Mrs. Parnell M. Jones and Mr. Joe Addison, and Mr. Johnny J. Drayton, Civil Rights Honoree, will be honored.

Parnell Jones Jones, a nurse by profession, is very active in the community serving on several boards. She is credited with establishing the local Adult Sickle Cell Clinic. Jones is an ardent member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Addison moved to Savannah at the age of 17. Joe became involved in selling automobiles as a side business. In July 1969, opened his first automotive dealership on the corner of Wayne and West Broad Streets, Joe Addison Motors was born. He is a a member of the Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church where he has served in a number of capacities.

Following high school, Johnny Drayton join the NAACP to take up the cause of freedom and to serve on the front line. He is credited with being very involved in the campaign to achieve the integration of Savannah High School, the local theatres, super markets restaurants and many others businesses.
