NAACP to Hold Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet
On Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. the Savannah Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will host its annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet, celebrating the NAACP's 100 years of service. This event will be held at the Savannah Hyatt Regency Hotel, 8 p.m.
Entirely dependent on the voluntary contributions of concerned individuals, corporations and foundations, the Freedom Fund Awards Banquet has remained attuned to the times.
Founded on the principle objectives of ensuring the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens and the elimination of racial prejudice, the NAACP seeks to remove all barriers of racial discrimination through the democratic processes.
Our annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet brings people of goodwill together to assess their progress in the field of human relations.
In that connection, each year we honor persons from our community for their contributions to the mission and principle objectives of the NAACP.
In addition, individual tickets are priced at $75.00 each or a table of 10 at $750.00. Tickets are available by contacting the the Branch office at 912-233- 4161.
Sandra McCord Best is the chairperson for the Freedom Fund Banquet, and Dr. Prince Jackson, Jr. serves as chapter president.
Founded Feb. 12. 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest, largest and most widely recognized grassroots–based civil rights organization.
Its more than half-million members and supporters throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, conducting voter mobilization and monitoring equal opportunity in the public and private sectors.
The NAACP was formed partly in response to the continuing horrific practice of lynching and the 1908 race riot in Springfield, the capital of Illinois and resting place of President Abraham Lincoln.
