Savannah Arts Academy Named Governor's Cup Award Winner

Savannah Arts Academy has received the Governor’s Cup for the second year in a row.

Sonny Perdue hold up the Governor’s Cup On Tuesday, October 6, Governor Sonny Perdue and State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox honored Savannah Arts Academy students with the Governor’s Cup trophy for improvement in SAT scores.

The school was presented a $2000 grant towards SAT preparation materials. The entire student body and faculty members also received t-shirts as part of the recognition.

Governor Perdue initiated the statewide competition in 2003 as part of an overall effort to raise Georgia’s SAT scores.

The Governor’s Cup is awarded annually to the school in each class with the highest average SAT score improvement over the past three years.

Savannah Arts Academy is also one of 7 SCCPSS recipients of this year’s State Superintendent’s Distinguished Achievement Awards.

The Superintendent's Distinguished Achievement Awards are based on the performance of students on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT), the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT), the End-of-Course Tests (EOCT) and the state Writing Tests.

These awards acknowledge schools in the categories of improvement and achievement.

Savannah Arts Academy received Distinguished Achievement Awards in: * End of Course Tests (EOCT) Achievements in 9th grade Literature and Composition, American Literature and Composition, and Biology *Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) Achievements in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies *Georgia Writing Test Achievement to 1st time 11th graders
