Mrs. Lillian Ellis, Outgoing President

Sponsors of New and Talented Artists, Inc. kicked off its new year with a successful fanfare at Historic First Bryan Baptist Church. Seventeen students were awarded the scholarship for this coming year. The students and parents were introduced to the Sonata board.

During this event, SONATA'S president for the past six years, Sis Lillian Ellis gave a great speech stepping down to make way for our new President Mrs. Elinda Gorman. In her speech she had some encouraging words for students, parents, teachers and board members. She stated that she has enjoyed immensely supporting, encouraging and providing a variety of musical and cultural experiences for the young artists of SONATA. She welcomed and congratulated the 2009-2010 scholarship recipients, Mia Colbert, Janielle Hannon, Alexis Maynor, Davita Parris, Destiny Reed, Paula Small, Antwone Smoak, Aquila Campbell, Franchesca Colley, Kirah Nelson, Chisamu Penn, Shandae Reese, DA'Nette Stevens, Jana Carpenter, Tashina Green, Nkenge Mitchell and Ashley Reaves. She told them how privileged they were to receive the scholarships and advised them to work hard and long to maintain this accomplishment. Mrs. Ellis stated that she would always cherish the friendships, camaraderie and hard work she has shared with the SONATA board members. During her leadership and with the help of the community, we have given ninety-six (96) music scholarships in the amount of $68,040.

As she passed the baton to our new leader (Mrs. Elinda Gorman), she pledged her continuous support and congratulations.
