YMCA Holds Annual Heart of Savannah 5K Road Race
Participants of the 1/4 Mile Kiddie Fun Run along with Johnny Bryant.
The YMCA of Coastal Georgia held the 20th Anniversary Heart of Savannah 5K Road Race & 1/4 Mile Kiddie Fun Run. All proceeds from the event benefited the Priceless Gifts Annual Fund. This fund helps the YMCA of Coastal Georgia to provide financial assistance to those who otherwise would not be able to afford program or membership fees.
The race started at the corner of Congress and Jefferson, proceeded south on Jefferson, east on York, then turned south on Bull. The race continued on Bull winding around Savannah's historic squares then once around Forsyth Park, headed north up Bull, west on Bryan, then returned to City Market and finally finishing at the corner of Congress and Barnard. Among the participants of the race was Johnny Bryant. Bryant suffered an injury approximately five years ago and was unable to walk. He began therapy at the YMCA and has since started to walk again, and walked the 1/4 mile race!
The YMCA of Coastal Georgia's Heart of Savannah 5K celebrated youth activity by inviting children to run or walk. The 1/4 mile event was held prior to the 5K and was a fun-filled, non-competitive event. Each child received a winner's ribbon and a short sleeved t-shirt. The YMCA thanks all of its sponsors including St. Joseph's/Candler, Southeastern Orthopedic Center, Unifirst, Café Gelatohhh!, Quality Rock Q105.3, WTOC, The Savannah Tribune, Publix, Saturn of Savannah, Savannah Coca-Cola, Savannah Striders, Fleet Feet Sports, Advertising Specialties.
