Robinson Participates in Hershey Track and Field Competition

Makayla Robinson, an 11 year old Savannahian traveled to Hershey Pennsylvania to participate in the Hershey Track and Field Competition held on Saturday, August 1, and placed third in the softball throw competition.
This was Makayla’s third year participating in the Hershey Track and Field Competition. Last year she placed first in her competition. Robinson also competed in an Augusta Meet where she set a new record. She has participated in other sports including football, baseball, softball, and basketball.
Robinson is an important part of these teams, even leading her basketball team to championship games.
Makayla is a member of the United House of Prayer for all People. Makayla also excels not only on the field or on the court, but she is also a great student.
She contributes her success in and out of the classroom to her family and friends.
From April through July, boys and girls ages nine through 14 competed in local, district, state and provincial meets. At least five participants from each state and 10 Canadian provinces and three territories then travel to Hershey, Pa. to compete in the North American Final Meet at Henry Hershey Field on the campus of the Milton Hershey School. In total, approximately 560 youth athletes spent four actionpacked days in Hershey visiting the sites, meeting peers and famous track and field athletes, then competing in the nationally recognized track event.
Hershey’s Track & Field Games introduces children to physical fitness through basic events like running, jumping and throwing. It also encourages children to reach their potential and develop a sense of accomplishment.
Founded in 1975 by Dr. Donald P. Cohen in Charleston, W.V., Hershey’s Track & Field Games has grown from a local playground event in a single community to an international program encouraging physical fitness among youths and sportsmanship between peers.
More than 10 million children from the United States and Canada have participated in the Hershey’s Track & Field Games to date.
