The Voices and Faces of Breast Cancer Survivorship

October is one month away. Each year, this particular month brings an onslaught of pink ribbons reminding everyone about the importance of breast cancer early detection and prevention.

Approximately 5,290 women in Georgia are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. This means that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. We all know women around us—mothers, sisters, grandmothers, friends and co-workers— who have been affected by this disease. They often become our inspiration, our heroes, and the voices that get us to that yearly mammogram appointment.

The Voices & Faces campaign will be unveiled at the 4th annual Voices & Faces Fashion Show and Luncheon, sponsored by St. Joseph’s Candler Nancy N and JC Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion, will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Hilton Savannah Desoto Hotel on Saturday, September 26, 2009. Tickets are available for $30 per seat or $270 for table of ten. To reserve your ticket, call the local American Cancer Society office at (912) 355-5196.

Along with the unveiling of the campaign, the Luncheon will include a silent auction, entertainment and fashion show. The models for the fashion show are the 2009 Voices & Faces featuring clothing from Macy’s and Coldwater Creek.

Locally, the American Cancer Society helps women dealing with breast cancer through programs such as Reach to Recovery®, a oneto one peer support program which, for more than 35 years, has trained breast cancer survivors to respond to concerns of people who are going through breast cancer diagnosis or treatment; Look Good… Feel Better®, a free, community-based national service which, for the past 15 years, has taught female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments; Cancer Survivors NetworkSM, (CSN) a Web-based support service created by and for cancer survivors; and the Patient Services Room, where women receive free wigs and prostheses. To be connected with one of these local services, plus many more, call 912.355.5196 or 800.227.2345.
