Innocence Society to host “Freedom Not Torture”

Dr. Malachi York Dr. Malachi York The Innocence Society, a nonprofit organization that aims to correct flaws within the criminal justice system, will host “Freedom not Torture for Malachi Kobina York.”

The event is Saturday, Aug. 29, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mary Flournoy Golden Age Center located at 1001 W. 39th St., Savannah.

The event will include an exclusive documentary screening of “Mysteries Behind Closed Doors,” a documentary about the alleged conspiracy to destroy York. In addition to the documentary screening there will be appearances by the Muhammad Study Group, The Blakely Sisters and Minister Jamie Muhammad, among other human rights freedom fighters.

York was the leader of the United Nuwaubian Nation of Moors, a fraternal organization of people from different religions. He received a 135-year sentence on child molestation charges in April 2004. York is currently requesting his sentence be vacated and a hearing investigating prosecutorial misconduct.
