Junior League of Savannah Thrift Sale

The 62nd annual Junior League of Savannah Thrift Sale will be held on Friday, October 2 from 10 am to 2 pm and Saturday, October 3 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Savannah Civic Center. Admission is $5 on Friday and $3 on Saturday. Items sold on Saturday are half-price. Parking is free.Tickets can be purchased at the Civic Center box office or online at www.jrleaguesav.org

Johnny Mercer Event at the Avery Gallery 390 Roswell St. – Marietta , GA Friday, September 4th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oscar Award Winner Johnny Mercer was a song writer during the middle of the 20th century. He wrote over 1,500 songs in his career Several musical artists will play and sing Johnny Mercer songs. Susie Chisholm, sculptor of the Johnny Mercer sculpture to be installed and dedicated on Ellis Square in Savannah, will have the table version of the Johnny Mercer sculpture and several of her other sculptures for the September First Friday ARTWALK at the Avery Gallery. Stewards of Children

On September 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Georgia Center for Nonprofits (GCN) will present the “Stewards of Children” sexual abuse prevention program at the United Way, 428 Bull Street . United Way of Coastal Empire Solicits Programs

Local non-profit organizations have between now and September 14, 2009 to declare their intent to apply for funding from United Way of the Coastal Empire. The fund will grant money to programs and services that have a proven track record of outcomes as well as new, innovative programs related to one of United Way priorities: Education and Youth Development, Health and Wellness, and Economic Independence. Organizations supporting families and neighborhoods with programs that provide food, clothing, shelter and other basic necessities of life are also encouraged to apply. The Program Funding Application is available on the United Way website at www.uwce.org. The submission date for completed applications is the close of business (5:00 p.m.) on Monday, September 14, 2009. Sol C. Johnson National Alumni

SONATA

Sponsors of New and Talented Artists, Inc. (SONATA) is taking applications for scholarships to their program. Students in grades seven through ten who are serious and talented in playing an orchestral instrument are invited to apply for scholarships to the SONATA program. Applications may be obtained from any member of the board or by calling Mrs. Lillian Ellis at 233-7366 or Mrs. Alma Williams at 355- 1892. Applications must be returned by the deadline date, August 29th. No applications will be accepted after the deadline. This applies to new and previous students.

The Alzheimer’s Association

The Alzheimer's Association's Annual Memory Walk will take place on Saturday, September 26 at Johnson Square in Savannah from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

People across Coastal Georgia are invited to participate in this year's event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research programs. This inspiring event calls on volunteers of all ages to become Champions in the fight against Alzheimer's.

Come enjoy a beautiful walk through Savannah's historic district, great music by Bucky Bryant and Chuck Courtenay, BBQ from Sticky Fingers, and fun for all ages!

Evening of Jazz

Royce Learning Center will hold its 3rd Annual Evening of Jazz on September 13th, 2009 from 5:00-7:30pm at the Savannah Marriott Riverfront.
