For the second consecutive year Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church in Savannah, Georgia was named the Sons of Allen Georgia Conference 2008-2009 Unit of The Year at this year’s African Methodist Episcopal Church Georgia Conference held in Waycross, Georgia.

The Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church Sons of Allen, a unit of men in ministry, continued to put forth much effort to provide service

to those in need at its church and in our local community.

The unit helped members of its church obtain fire alarm systems for their homes through the Savannah Fire Department.

The unit transported veterans from Savannah, Georgia to the VA Center in Charleston, South Carolina for medical appointments for which the unit’s efforts were also recognized by the the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C.

The unit sponsored back to school haircuts for young men, conducted blood pressure checks every first Sunday at its church, provided and delivered turkeys to church families in need and fruit baskets to church members living in nursing homes.
