Smith Completes Residency at Emory University School of Medicine

Dr. Tessa Smith Dr. Tessa Smith Dr. Tessa Smith is the daughter of Edward and Theresa Smith of Savannah, Georgia.

Dr. Smith attended Pulaski Elementary School, DeRenne and Bartlett Middle Schools, and was the Salutatorian and medical magnet honor graduate of Alfred Ely Beach High School Class of 1997.

From the start of high school she had the dream to become a physician. She received inspiration from her Pastors, Bishop and Mother Myles A. Latimer, at Genesis New Life Apostolic Faith Church to attend Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

In accordance with their vision, she went on to attend and graduate from Emory University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology.

While in college she studied abroad in Psychology in Scotland and England during the summer of 2000.

She also attend four Summer Student Educational Enrichment Programs at the Medical College of Georgia during high school and undergraduate.

Also while attending Emory she participated in Elementary Science Education Partners which was a program that encouraged hands-on-science education to stimulate the interest of elementary students to pursue a science career.

During her senior year at Emory University, Dr. Smith became a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician.

Between college and medical school she volunteered with her local chapter of the American Red Cross and was trained in providing family emergency assistance.

She used her EMT certification to work in the Emergency Department in both Savannah and Augusta Georgia.

At the onset of medical school, she was honored with the Stoney Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Society Scholarship that covered her tuition for all four years of medical school.

In the summer of 2003, she was chosen to participate in the Mayo Clinic Preceptorship Program in Rochester, Minnesota.

She continues to teach Sunday School at her church whenever she is in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia.

After graduating from the Medical College of Georgia and completing her residency at Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Smith has accepted a job position as an emergency room physician with an outstanding hospital to give society the care and medical needs that they so deserve.
