(HCFS) continued its community and economic development Roundtable and Open Forum at its monthly breakfast held on Saturday June 6, 2009, at 9:30 AM, in the Annex of the May Street YMCA.

The presentation featured the HCFS Covenant X study group’s preliminary plan for “Closing the Racial Digital Divide” in Savannah-Chatham County.

Dr. Tyrone D. Taborn, CEO, Career Communications Group, wrote in Tavis Smiley’s THE COVENANT WITH BLACK AMERICA, that “In recent years, there has been much discussion surrounding black participation in digital technology. Studies and reports have exposed the gap between blacks and whites in computer ownership and Internet access. Both are important subjects, but narrow in their scope. More recently, the discussion has advanced to digital inclusion, as well as African American participation in areas such as business development and content creation.”

Wyllene Wilfong, a local businesswoman, said that she was participating in the Covenant X study group because she wanted people in the Savannah community to be global citizens; and that through technology, we could be exposed to the world.

Carolyn Allen, Principal Partner, Professional Presence, is serving as Chairman of the HCFS’ Covenant X Study Group.

Other members include Min. Essie Stewart-Johnson, Program Coordinator, Con-Ed, Inc., Howard J. Morrison, Jr., Lebanon Enterprises, Diana Harvey Johnson, President, Pinnacle Communications Corporation, Tony Byrd, CEO, NewsBoyNetwork.com, Lise Sundrla, Executive Director and Paul Featheringill, Program Manager, Savannah Development and Renewal Authority, Henry T. Wilfong, CEO, The Wilfong Group, Chris Miller, President, Creative Consulting and Devena Jordan, Co-Director, All Walks of Life (AWOL).

The ten covenants of the continuing communitywide study will hold public forums through the end of September.

The public is invited to participate. You do not have to be a member of the HCFS to participate in the work of the various Covenant study groups.
