Second African Baptist Church Celebrates Graduates Recognition Sunday
The Second African Baptist Church, 123 Houston Street on Greene Square, is celebrating Graduates' Recognition Sunday on June 28, 2009 during the 11:00 morning services.
The high school graduates receiving special recognition this year include Martina Allen, Taylor Davis, Jasmine Holmes and Rachel Williams.
In addition to graduates, college graduates and retirees will also be honored.
The messenger of the morning will be Mrs. Earline Wesley Davis. Mrs. Davis, a native Savannahian, is the youngest of eleven children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Sumpter of the West Savannah area. She was educated in the local public schools, having attended Moses Jackson Elementary, Scott Middle Schoo1 and Tompkins High School. She received her B.S, Degree from Savannah State University, formerly Savannah State College. Her further studies included a M.S.W. of Administration Degree from Florida State University and a Mini MBA Degree from Wichita State University. Mrs. Davis has over thirty years of administrative experience that includes program development, implementation and administration, community collaboration, budget preparation and management, as well as grant writing and contract negotiation. She has served in the social work arena for a number of years, Her latest assignments include Director of the Chatham County Department of Family and Children Services where she served for three years. Presently, she serves as Executive Director of the Housing Authority where they recently constructed a new housing community on the eastside of town and are now developing the Sustainable Fellwood Homes Project, one of Savannah's oldest public housing neighborhoods, On the Westside of town. Presently, Mrs. Davis is affiliated with a number of service organizations which includes United Way, the Rotary Club, Youth Futures Authority, Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care Center, National Forum for Black Public Administrators, and Workforce Investment Board.
She is a, life-long member of Townsley Chapel A.M.E. Church where she plays an active role in various ministries of the church. Mrs. Davis is the wife of Mr. Robert D. Davis, III and is the mother of five children.
