EBONY Magazine Recognizes Chef Joe Randall

Atlanta, Georgia - The third annual "TASTE OF EBONY," a culinary extravaganza that recognized the expertise of leading African American chefs and food-industry experts, was held on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Mason Murer Arts in Atlanta. Linda Johnson Rice, President and CEO of Johnson Publishing Company kicked off the event and comedian Bill Bellamy of NBC's "Last Comic Standing" and TV One's "Who's Got Jokes" was the host for the evening.

Chefs from across the country, including Savannah's own Executive Chef Joe Randall - Chef Joe Randall's Cooking School, Charlotte Lyons - Ebony Magazine Food Editor (Chicago), Executive Chef Dwight Evans - Highly Regarded (Chicago), Executive Chef/TV Host G. Garvin - TV One's "Turn Up the Heat", Executive Chef Rahman "Rock" Harper - Winner of Hell's Kitchen 2007, Executive Chef Tony Morrow - The Pecan (Atlanta), Chef Allan Vernon - Vernon's Jerk Sauce (NYC and Atlanta), Personal Chef Jamika Pessoa - Life of the Party (Atlanta), Executive Chef Clayton Sherrod - Eurest Dining Services- Lawry's (Birmingham), Executive/Chef/TV Host Marvin Woods - "Home Plate" (Atlanta), Executive Chef Darryl Evans - The Verve Lounge (Atlanta), Chef Sonja Jones - Sweet Auburn Bread Company (Atlanta), presented guests with a taste of their signature dishes.

Two of the stars of Bravo's "Real Housewives Atlanta" - Sheree Whitfield and Lisa Wu Hartwell, gospel singer Dottie Peoples, CNN anchorman Don Lemon and R & B singer Musiq Soulchild were among some of the numerous guests.

THE TASTE OF EBONY celebrates the unheralded contributions Blacks have made to the world of culinary arts. It further serves as a catalyst for people of color, particularly a younger generation, to view the many facets of the food industry as a viable path toward pursuing prestigious careers.
