SCAD - Gainsborough SCAD Museum of Art announces a holiday open house for "Town and Country: British Taste in the Late 18th and 19th Centuries," an exhibition featuring work by several of the great English masters, Dec. 17, 1-6 p.m., 227 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

The exhibition features approximately two dozen works by great English masters such as Thomas Gainsborough, Joseph Wright of Derby, Sir Joshua Reynolds, John Hoppner, Sir William Beechey, and others. The paintings depict a world of prosperous merchants and their wives, and of the English landed gentry and aristocracy, as they pose for posterity in their finery.
