City Mission's Day of Great Thanksgiving Over the Top
Old Savannah City Mission's 11th Annual Day of Great Thanksgiving was over the top. Not only was the day beautiful and crispy, 5,276 delicious smoked turkey dinners were served to our community's neediest citizens. Volunteers delivered over 1,200 dinners to seniors, shut-ins and folks with special needs. More than 1,000 volunteers helped in the preparation 260 turkeys beginning on Tuesday and culminating in today's event. They willingly gave their time and resources to make a difference. Many of the volunteers were young people who eagerly filled the plates, attended tables, and pull cleanup detail.
"Today has been a phenomenal success. So many people came together. The food was wonderful. The music was great. The day was beautiful. And, 5,276 meals were eagerly served. The Mission owes a great debt of gratitude to so many donors, volunteers, churches and businesses. I sincerely believe Savannah is a better place when people come together in gratitude and share a meal. We have so much for which to be thankful."
