Chatham Retired Educators Association

2008-11-26 / Social & Community News

Our meeting was cheerful once again. We also always look forward to a joyous time together. President, Hugh Golson was a t the helm as usual. His delight was to report that the Retired Educators Day in Chatham county was a total success and also around Georgia. The Chatham County commissioners issued a proclamation which was presented to the Chatham Retired Educators Association, president, Hugh Golson. The Local Membership Chairperson, Annie Welch and Publicity Chairperson, Lula Wilson were in attendance. The C.R.E.A. mailed 85 letters to churches in the county, asking them to recognize their retired educators during the November 2, 2008 services.

Protocol was then established by our president. Then we whispered among ourselves about our newly elected president, Barack Hussein Obama. We greeted the new season with songs, recognizing the November Birthdays, new members/guests and the get acquainted session.

During the Business Session, chairpersons rendered their reports. The Necrology Committee stated that two comrades deceased recently, namely; Mrs. Constance Jones Newsome and Mrs. Eugenia S. Durden Glover. New business elated all of us, we learned that our very own Mrs. Dorothy Wilson is running for the state president. She certainly has our support.

The guest speaker was Mr. Ron Medinger from the mentoring program, L.O.V.E. (Local Outreach Volunteer Educators). It is such a meaningful commitment from a large sector of our community. It provides a powerful impact on our challenged schools.

Our next meeting is scheduled for December 8, 2008, in the Banquet Room at Carey Hilliard's Restaurant, 11111 Abercorn Street Extension. The time 10:30-2:30. Registration and lunch is only $13.00. We are looking for you to come and bring a guest. President, Mr. Hugh Golson

Publicity Chairperson,

Mrs. Lula Wilson
