Walter Moore Walter Moore SSU Wins Homecoming

Daniel Studdard rushed for two touchdowns to lead Savannah State to a 23-7 homecoming victory over Concordia before 9,217 fans at Wright Stadium. SSU (4- 5) took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a Derek Williams 27 yard field goal. The Tigers extended their lead to 6-0 in the second quarter on a 26 yard Williams filed goal. With 9:08 left in the third quarter, Concordia (5- 5) went ahead 7-6 on a seven-yard run by A. J. Ward. SSU responded with 17 unanswered points to finish the contest. Williams kicked a 24 yard field goal early in the fourth to put SSU back ahead 9-7. With 5:25 left, Studdard scored on a three-yard run and added another three-yard run with 1:48 remaining. Williams converted both extra points. Justin Babb led SSU in rushing with a career-high 164 yards. JaCorey Kilcrease completed 9-of-11 passes for 58 yards and Deleon Hollinger caught six balls for 67 yards. Calvin Leonard had nine tackles and a interception for the defense. SSU will play Edward Waters on November 8 in St. Mary's Georgia at 5:00 p.m.

NC Central Tops Edward Waters

Michael Johnson threw three touchdown passes to help lead North Carolina Central to a 34-14 homecoming win against Edward Waters before 11,625 fans. Johnson was 9 of 21 for 181 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions for the Eagles (2-6). Johnson connected with Will Scott on touchdowns of 32 and 36 yards in the opening quarter, but EWC's Cesary Wilborn hit Horace Scott on a 15- yard pass that cut the Eagles' lead to 14-7 at the half. After David Ingram's 32-yard interception return made it 21-7, Wilborn's 1-yard touchdown run pulled the Tigers (2-7) within a touchdown. Johnson's second 32- yard touchdown pass to Scott put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter.

2008 Pioneer Bowl Suspended

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) have suspended the Pioneer Bowl for 2008. The game was scheduled to take place in Columbia, SC on December 6, 2008 at Charlie W. Johnson stadium. The Pioneer Bowl will resume in 2009 at a date and time to be determined. The SIAC Council of Presidents and Athletic Directors' Committee in conjunction with CIAA Board of Directors Leon Kerry have decided to focus their efforts toward the future and suspend the game for 2008. The Bowl Game features the Champion of the SIAC and the CIAA and began in 1997. The SIAC leads the series between the two conferences 8-2.

Rams Pound FVSU Kisan Flakes threw four touchdown passes as Albany State defeated Fort Valley State 31-7 in the Fountain City Classic played before 22,331 in Columbus, Georgia. ASU (6-3) led 14-0 at the half thanks to a pair of 14-yard TD passes by Flakes. The Rams went up 21-0 in the third and 24-0 early in the fourth after a 32- yard field goal. With about 10 minutes left, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard as Rodney Culler recovered a fumble in the end zone. Flakes threw a 43-yard TD pass with 5:47 left for the final points of the game. FVSU (5-5) only had 185 yards of offense while the Rams rolled up 467. Flakes passed for 269 yards and ran for 71. Chad Bryant caught two touchdowns for ASU.

WSSU Holds Off Hampton

Winston-Salem State built a 25-point lead but had to hold on in a 35-30 win over Hampton (5-3). WSSU led 35-10 early in the third but the Pirates scored 20 unanswered points before falling short. The Rams (2-6) led 14-3 after one quarter and 28-10 at the half.
