October 13 - Mr. Hugh Golson, our jubilant president initiated the agenda with a delightful greeting from Ralph Waldorf Emerson. He helped us celebrate Columbus Day with the singing of patriotic songs. His comments reminder us of the different activities to be held at the Ralph Mark Gilbert Museum, November 2nd is Educators Day, the Eye Glass Drive and a review of some of the findings of the Teacher Retirement System.

Most of the committees made their reports. We are elated to report that our enrollments are increasing, state and local. The In- Touch Committee sent six cards to the sick and shutins. In fact, two were with us today. Necrology reported the known deaths of three comrades, namely; Mrs. Ida Folger Garfield, Mr. James E. Grant Sr. and Mr. Solomon Myers Sr.

The State and District Legislatives joined us today, Mr. Micky Stevens, Mr. Buddy Carter, Mr. Greg Gordon, Mr. Lester Jackson and Mrs. Gloria Edwards. They briefed us on the concerns of the General Assembly, namely the crucial water problems statewide, trauma care, transportation, tax relief and gun laws. They urged us to contact our legislatives about our T.R.S., this is money we have earned. They also emphasized our voting rights. Many of them left their cell numbers for them to be contacted.

Mrs. Barbara Foley, Director of Learning for Life Program. This program is recruiting volunteers for mentoring students in grades K-12th. Such persons are asked to share life experiences and read to them.

There were a number of new and returning educators with us today, namely; Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Thomas, Mrs. Theresa Wright, Mrs. Marva Harris, Mrs. Jessie Deloach, Mrs. Irene Thomas, Mrs. Marie Ingram, and Mrs. Ruby Futch. What a joy it was to have them.

Our next meeting will be held November 10th at our same meeting place, Carey Hilliard's Restaurant, on Abercorn Extension.
