Isaiah Davenport House to present Holiday Evening Tours by Candlelight
The Isaiah Davenport House will present Holiday Evening Tours by Candlelight Friday, December 26 through Tuesday, December 30 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Patrons who wish to have a complete experience should be at the Davenport House no later than 8 p.m. Davenport House is located at 324 East State Street, Savannah - on the corner of Habersham and State Streets at Columbia Square.
The house museum will be open for evening tours exploring the December celebrations of the early 19th century inhabitants of the fine brick home on Columbia Square. Topics will include the meaning of the season, feasting, music, the Scottish influence on the family, treatment of house slaves during the holiday time, etc. The Dining Room table will be set for an intimate adult meal with special treats for the New Year's Day celebration and the Drawing Room will be set as if preparing for a dance. Some docents will be in authentic early 19th century attire.
Seeing the home lit for the evening's program. Listening to music from the early 19th century. Tasting short bread and cider in the garden. Hearing the story of early 19th century holiday celebrations from trained docents.
For adults - $8 in advance and $10 at the time of the tour. For children ages 6 - 18 -- $5 in advance and $7 at the time of the tour.
