With the beginning of winter, the Department of Human Resources (DHR) began providing heating assistance for low-income Georgians through the Lowincome Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

November 3 to November 30, 2008, the homebound and elderly (65+) may apply for assistance at BOA-Economic Opportunity Authority for Savannah/Chatham Area, Inc., 618 W. Anderson St. on a first come first serve basis. All other eligible families will be seen beginning December 1, 2008. They will be seen by appointments only. These appointments arc made on each Monday, either by coming to 618 W. Anderson St. or calling 238- 2960, extensions 137,139,166,167,127,128 or 129. The LIHEAP heating Program will provide a one time benellt to clients who meet the LIHEAP eligibility criteria.

To apply, applicants must bring their most recent heating bill. Written proof of the total household income for the last 30 days, (SS or SSI award letter, check stubs or letter from employer). Proof of age is required for those 65 years and older. A most recent heating bill, Social Security Cards for all household members and I picture ID for the applicant. Authorization statement are required if someone else is applying for you.
