First "First Lady Tea" at SSU a Success
Patricia Yarbrough A "First Lady Tea", hosted by Savannah State University's First Lady, Mrs. Patricia Yarbrough and the Savannah Chapter of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association, was held on August 30, 2008 in the President's Dining Room at the university. The room was beautifully decorated in orange and blue, including breathtaking fall centerpieces that adorned each table. Female ministers, pastors and other clergy, ministers' wives and widows, SSU alumni and members of the community met for midmorning tea and fellowship. Miss SSU, Tirrany Thurman, extended greetings and talented SSU Choir member, LaToyia Bradshaw, rendered a soulful solo. Mrs. Yarbrough was a congenial host and at the end of the program she presented each guest with a special gift. This event was a first attempt by the Savannah Chapter to make the community at-large more aware of the university and what it has to offer all students seeking higher education. Since proceeds from the Tea will be used for student scholarships, attendees were able to make contributions to the scholarship fund.
Chairperson Alvernia Jackson received positive responses from those in attendance and recommended to the Chapter that the Tea become an annual fundraiser for scholarships.
Anyone who would like to support our scholarship efforts are encouraged to send donations in any amount and at any time to: SSUNAA - Savannah Chapter, P.O. Box 585, Savannah, GA 31402.
