Chatham-Savannah Youth Futures Authority Launches Savannah CARES

2008-10-22 / Social & Community News

The Chatham- Savannah Youth Futures Authority (YFA) is pleased to announce its local mentoring effort for the community, Savannah CARES. Savannah CARES is a network of mentor programs and prospective mentors in the city. This CARES Circle was established based on the National Cares Mentoring Movement (NCMM), which is a national endeavor designed to provide organizational direction, leadership, and technical support to communities. The purpose of the Savannah CARES is for the Youth Futures Authority to serve as a neutral source for mentor programs and prospective mentors to learn of available resources and initiatives.

The Authority is looking for mentoring programs throughout the community to register with Savannah CARES. As a registered program within the community, you will receive benefits of mentor and mentee referrals, technical assistance, and program development support. If you are an adult willing to give a minimum of four hours per month to offer guidance and support to the youth of Savannah, please sign-up with Savannah CARES. YFA will link possible mentors with registered Savannah CARES mentoring programs. The group will meet monthly in an effort to provide updates, and assistance with program or mentor challenges.

The NCMM is partnered with the 100 Black Men of America, the National Urban League, The Links, Inc., and Big Brothers Big Sisters to name a few. For inquiries, to receive a complete listing of current mentoring programs in the community, to register as a mentor program, or if interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Chandriah Bell, YFA Intern, at (912) 651-6815 or cbell@youthfutures. com.
