Walter Moore Wells Gets First Win As Head Coach
Shell Wins Turner Merit Award
At halftime of the 15th annual Joseph Turner Classic football game between Savannah State and Livingstone, Herbert Shell was awarded the 2008 Joseph Turner Merit Award. Shell is a 1963 graduate of Tompkins High School and a 1967 graduate of Benedict. A injury cut short a promising professional football career with the Montreal Beavers. Shell retired from the Hyatt Hotel in June 2007. A founding member of the Woodville/Tompkins Hall of Fame, Shell is an active member of Mustard Seed Faith Center. He is married to the former Betty Kennedy and he has two children and four grandchildren.Aggies Top WSSU
Herbert Miller and Michael Ferguson each ran for touchdowns as North Carolina A&T defeated Winston- Salem State 14-8 at Aggie Stadium before 21,500 fans. After suffering through a 27- game losing streak, A&T has now won two games in a row. Miller scored on a twoyard run in the first quarter and Ferguson added a 12 yard run early in the fourth. Miller ended the game completing 11 of 20 passes for 83 yards while Ferguson rushed for 86 yards on 20 carries.Former Savannah State wide receiver Bryant Bayne caught seven passes for WSSU (0-1).Morehouse Rallies

Micah Streiff hit a 29 yard field goal with two seconds left to give Morehouse a 38- 35 win over Fort Valley State at Wildcat Stadium on September 7. The game was televised on ESPNU. Savannah native James Steadman caught six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown for Morehouse (1-1). Morehouse trailed 35-17 midway in the third quarter before rallying with 21 unanswered points. For FVSU, which fell to 1-2, quarterback Garrett Williams threw for 207 yards and four touchdowns.Travel With The Tigers To Miami
The Savannah State football will play Howard in the Miami Classic on September 27. Trinity Graphics is sponsoring a three-day bus ride to the game for only $250.
