CAT Proposes Minor Route and Schedule Changes

2008-08-27 / Social & Community News

Chatham Area Transit (CAT) regularly evaluates proposed improvements and/or adjustments to bus routes and schedules based on passenger and bus operator input, survey results, and Transportation Development Plan recommendations. Proposed schedule and/or route changes will be presented at a called CAT board meeting to be held on Friday, August 22, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Chatham County Courthouse, 124 Bull Street. Schedule and/or route changes are being recommended to six of the bus routes identified in the 2007 Transportation Development Plan Summary of changes:

• The #14 Abercorn will introduce an additional bus that will travel to/from the Oglethorpe Mall on weekdays only between 11:30a.m. - 5:25p.m. During this time, headways will be increased from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes.

• Monday - Thursday, the #25 West Lake will make five trips to the University of Phoenix in Chatham Center.

• #17 Silk Hope will not serve the Chatham County Detention Center on weekdays. The Detention Center will now be served by the #25 West Lake on these days.

• The #6 Crosstown will begin service from Hodgson Memorial rather than the Sandfly Wal-Mart and will continue on regular route to the Wal-Mart on Hwy 17 due to low ridership figures.

• The 9:15 a.m. trip on the #20 Montgomery will be eliminated due to lack of ridership.

• A 6:20 a.m. trip to Chatham County Public Works will be eliminated. Instead passengers should board the #28 Waters Road. The #17 Silk Hope's 12:50 p.m. outbound trip will be eliminated due to schedule adjustments.

Incorporating these schedule and route adjustments will result in a net annual savings of $603,355.30. These changes are planned to coincide with the ride guide due out in October 2008.
