Rebuilding Together Elects Officers/Board Members

Joe Rosenblum, Building Construction & Maintenance Consultant, has been elected 2008-2009 president of Rebuilding Together Savannah by the Board of Directors. Cecilya Burns, Advocate at Senior Citizens Inc. was elected Vice- President. Bill Gardner, Minister of Music and Worship at Bull Street Baptist Church, was elected Secretary; and, Jeffery Lancaster, Vice-President at Metalcrafts Inc, was elected Treasurer.

New board members include Carol Coppola of SunTrust Bank, Christy Edwards of Hands on Georgia, John Vesey of Tronox, and Bernita Wilkerson of Savannah Chatham County Public Schools.

Rebuilding Together Savannah, organized in 1996 and formerly known as Christmas in April, is now in its 12th year of operation repairing existing houses for low-income homeowners. The 12th Rebuilding Day in May 2008 provided assistance to 30 homeowners, reaching a cumulative total of more than 200 homeowners since the first Rebuilding Day in 1997.

Repairs and modifications to improve or maintain the safety and /or health of the homeowner are the first priority. Other repairs and improvements may be made taking into account the homeowner's current or foreseeable disability needs. Repairs and modifications may also be made to improve the comfort and ease of living for the homeowner, and/or to improve the appearance of the house. All repairs are made at no cost to the homeowners so that they may continue to live in their homes in warmth, safety, and with independence.
