The Silver Cheetahs was founded in 1991 by Ed Jinks and Jerome White to groom youth to their full athletic potential within the sport of Track & Field. It is the intention of the founders to give athletes the best opportunities available for higher education in additional to their academic performance. The athletes compete within the Amateur Athletic Union, traveling to locations as far north as Detroit, Michigan and as far west as Des Moines, Iowa. The Savannah- Chatham Silver Cheetahs also host a county-wide youth invitational track & field meet to expose the community at large to the sport of track and field. This year's event was held on Saturday, July 12 at Savannah State University's Stadium.

The Silver Cheetahs proudly display their Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper medals (4th -8th place). The Silver Cheetahs compete year-round in Cross-Country during the Fall, Indoor Track & Field during the Winter and Outdoor Track & Field during the Spring and Summer months. You can find them practicing at Savannah State University, running faster, throwing farther and jumping higher, grooming the next Cheetah Champions.

The team has done an awesome job medaling amongst the best in the nation. With a total of 19 medals earned over the eight (8) day competition, the Silver Cheetahs clearly made their presence felt! The Cheetahs earned two Gold medals, three Silver medals, five Bronze medals, and nine Copper medals (4th through 8th place). Included in the results is the new National Record for the Sub-Youth Boys Long Jump of 20 feet, 6.75 inches set by Mike Dash. Last year the Cheetahs returned home with 17 medals. This year they broke that record returning home with nineteen (19). Every Cheetah is a Champion and we are so proud of each and every one of them.
