Local Memorial Service to Honor Dr. Dorothy I. Height
Dr. Dorothy Height
The National Council of Negro Women, Inc., (NCNW) Savannah Section, will lead a community Wide Memorial Tribute for Dr. Dorothy I. Height on June 5, 2010, 11 a.m. at St. Philip AME Church located at 613 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Known as “Godmother of the Civil Rights Movement”, Dr. Height served as chair of the National Council of Negro Women for 50 years and national president for 40 years.
Dr. Height transitioned Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at the age of 98.
She helped shape the organization's vision for women, their children and families.
The National Council of Negro Women is a national organization of organizations.
The memorial service will include national affiliate organizations and community representatives who want to pay tribute to an icon of social justice.
