Providing youth with opportunities to continue to learn and engage in meaningful activities can boost their academic success. To help motivate and inspire kids to learn, the West Broad Street YMCA is offering an avenue for local youth to return to school prepared with school supplies and uniforms.
On Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 11:00am to 3:00pm, the Y, located at 1110 May Street, will host a Block Party to celebrate the end of summer in preparation for the school year. This event is sponsored by Amerigroup Community Care, Cumulus Broadcasting, the Lady & Son’s, 9Twelve Entertainment and Project Inspire. Community residents and attendees will have access to the community pool, entertainment, arts and crafts, school supply giveaway, food and a tour of the facility on May Street.
“YMCA programs promote a love for learning, social and emotional development, healthy choices, character and creativity, and provide children with an extra support system through positive role models to help them achieve and reach their full potential,” said ZaDonna Slay, Exeuctive Director/ CEO, West Broad YMCA. “It is only fitting that as a pillar of this community we assit families in need with essential items necessary to start the school year.”
The West Broad YMCA is currently seeking individuals and businesses to donate school supplies and gently worn or new school uniforms to meet the needs of over 500 children that live in the surrounding communities. Donations will be received at the following locations until July 25, 2014: West Broad YMCA, 1110 May Street. Cumulus Broadcasting, 214 Television Circle. 9Twelve Recording Studio, 310 Montgomery Crossroads, Suite 24.
