The Savannah State University volleyball team (0-16) travels to the Sunshine State to face Bethune-Cookman University (1-12) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Daytona Beach and travels to Tallahassee to face Florida A&M University (3-11) Sunday at 3 p.m. to begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play.
Freshman outside hitter Dominique Ingram leads the Lady Tigers with a 1.90 kills per set and with a 0.75 blocks per set, while senior setter Caitlynn Masoe averages 1.77 kills per set, 2.25 assists per set, 0.38 service aces per set and 1.54 digs per set.
Junior Alee Quint leads the team with 4.60 assists per set, while senior libero Alexis Washington leads the team with 3.50 digs per set.
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 0-4 record at the Bulldog Invitational last weekend. SSU fell to Elon 3-0 (9-25, 19-25, 8-25), to Charleston Southern 3-1 (12-25, 28-26, 16- 25, 23-25), host The Citadel 3-0 (21-25, 8-25, 23-25) and to Austin Peay State 3-0 (14- 25, 20-25, 21-25).
Bethune- Cookman fell to Stetson 3-2 on Tuesday and went 0-3 at the Bulldog Invitational falling to host Georgia 3-0, South Alabama 3-0 and McNeese State 3-2. The Wildcats are led by Alana Handy with 2.44 kills per set, Phalen Clark with 5.27 assists per set and Alondra Baustista with 3.35 digs per set.
Florida A&M fell to North Florida 3-2 Tuesday night, but went 1-2 at the Florida Invitational with a win over Jacksonville (3- 0) and losses to host No. 7 Florida (3-0) and Marshall (3-0). The Rattlers are led by Nicole Abreu with 3.26 kills per set, Valeria Lopez with 7.63 assists per set and Valentina Carrasco with 4.34 digs per set.
The Lady Tigers return home for their MEAC home opener with North Carolina A&T State University (2-9) Friday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. and North Carolina Central University (1-6) Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m.
