Savannah State begins its preparation for the 2011 football season on August 1 as the Tigers report to campus for the start of preseason camp.
Players will check into residence halls beginning at 8 a.m. and will have a welcome back team dinner at Tiger Arena at 7:30 p.m. SSU is expecting 90 players to report the opening of camp.
Coaches and student-athletes will have team meetings on Aug. 2 and will be addressed by athletic officials later in the afternoon.
Aug. 3 will be “acclimation day” which will begin with a run through the campus at 6:30 a.m. At 3:30 p.m., the team will have its first practice in helmets. SSU’s second practice will also be in helmets on Aug. 4.
The team will practice in shells on Aug. 5 and 6, helmets on Aug. 7 and will put on full gear at 10:15 a.m. on Aug 8.
Media Day press conference is slated for Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. The first day of class is Aug 11 and the first scrimmage will be Aug. 13 at 9:45 a.m. (open).
Other scrimmages are set for Aug. 20 at 9:45 a.m. (open) and Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. (closed).
The Tigers open their first season under head coach Steve Davenport on September 3 when SSU travels to Henderson Stadium in Macon, Georgia to play instate rival Albany State in the Music City Classic.
