Tigers Open Spring Golf Schedule


 
 

The Savannah State men’s golf team opened the spring portion of the 2013- 14 schedule at the Savannah College of Art & Design Invitational, held on The Club at Savannah Harbor on Hutchinson Island Tuesday.

The Tigers finished in 10th place with a team score of 935 (304, 311, 320). SSU was led by junior Travis Roe who finished tied for 9th with a three round total of 225 (75, 75, 75). Scott Rogers finished in 12th with a total score of 226 (73, 75, 78).

SSU newcomer Joseph Barrows closed out the tournament with a 243 (76, 86, 81), followed by Trevor Podner (248), and Caleb Simons (248).

Johnson & Wales won the overall team battle with team score of 888, followed by the University of South Carolina Beaufort (897), Eckerd College (899), The Johnson & Wales secondary team (906), and SCAD-Savannah (908).

Northwood University finished in sixth place, followed by Thomas University, St. Andrews Presbyterian, and SCAD-Atlanta. The secondary USC Beaufort team finished in 11th place followed by Talladega College, Ave Maria, and the secondary SCAD-Savannah squad. Alan Cooke of USC Beaufort won individual medalist honors with a threeround score of 217 (69, 75, 73).

The Tigers continue the spring season with a visit to Daytona Beach, Florida for the Bethune-Cookman Invitational on February 15 and 16. SSU will host the first ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship Tournament at Crosswinds Golf Club on April 24-26.
