The Consortium of Doctors To Hold Annual Conference In Savannnah

The annual conference of the Consortium of Doctors (COD) will be held in Savannah, Georgia, Thursday, July 20-Sunday, July 23, taking place at the Savannah Hyatt Regency. It is scheduled to be an outstanding annual event.

This year’s theme is “Retooling, Refueling, Recommitting with a Focus on Women and Youth” Dr. Sylvia Carey-Butler, COD Director said, “We have worked tirelessly to have a conference that is meaningful to the membership, as well as, to the Savannah community. When we come to a city, our goal is to be significant and leave more informed than we were when we arrived, to enhance our own communities for a better quality of life.”

The conference features a welcoming reception on Thursday, sponsored by Carver State Bank, and the work of the conference begins on Friday. This includes the business meeting, the induction of nominees, showcasing outstanding women from around the country.

The Hidiya Pendleton Essay Awards Luncheon will feature some outstanding youth from the area and the luncheon takes place at the Beach Institute on Friday, July 21.

This year’s Think Tank takes a different perspective with a focus on interactive, thought-provoking discussion on Crises in America, especially in African American communities. Dr. Carolyn Baldwin Tucker, coordinator of the Think Tank said, “We will have insightful and spirited discussion on the current events— political, social, cultural and economic issues impacting the quality of life of the citizens in this country.”

The culminating event of the conference is the highly regarded Bouquet of Doctors Banquet. The renowned Beverly Kearney, who has an outstanding career in higher education and a true heart of gold with philanthropic activities will be the key note speaker. The Conference closes with worship service on Sunday at St. Phillip A.M. E. Church in Savannah. At this year’s conference, members who have been in the organization for 20 years will be recognized. “This conference provides a great opportunity for learning and sharing and is a moving experience for personal growth,” said Dr. Carey Butler.
