For the first time, the Atlanta Falcons Tailgate Team visited cities in South Georgia, a testament to the team’s strong fan base south of the Georgia Dome. The trip, inspired by fan demand on social media, took place mid-October after the Falcons bye week.
The Atlanta Falcons and Publix teamed up to bring players, cheerleaders and Freddie the Falcon to participating Publix stores across Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina for nine consecutive years, but this was the first season the tour headed South.
The tour, which kicked off in August and concludes in early January, will visit a 90 stores across four states.
“This is a great year to expand our tour,” said Maegan Moguel, an Atlanta Falcons corporate partnership executive and the tailgate team’s coordinator. “We’ve always had a strong social media following from fans in South Georgia, and we’re excited to finally meet them in person at their neighborhood Publix.”
The Tailgate Team started the campaign with a week in Alabama and will also make two trips to Tennessee this year.
“We’re excited to interact with our dedicated Falcons fans,” said Everett Barney, a member of the Atlanta Falcons Tailgate Team. “Expanding our fan base throughout the Southeast is a goal of ours and Publix is a great way to make true connections with our fans.”
There were also giveaways ranging from exclusive player glasses to hats to posters in exchange for purchasing select items. At each stop on the tour, the Tailgate Team also raffled off two pairs of tickets to upcoming Falcons home games. “At the Falcons, we’re always looking to engage with fans, whether it’s in-person, online or at Publix,” Moguel said.
