Teen Mya Smiley Named Superintendent’s Student of the Month


Teen Mya Smiley was recognized by the Savannah Chatham County Public School System at last month’s board meeting as the Superintendent’s Student of the month of January. Teen Mya is the daughter of Mr. Willet and Stephanie Williams and attends Temple of Glory Community Church. She was inducted into the Savannah Chapter of Top Teens of America in 2012 and has served the organization on both the local and area levels. Mya has served the Savannah Chapter as a member of the Community Partnership Thrust, chapter Treasurer and is currently the chapter’s First Vice President. On the area level, Mya, serves as the Area IV Treasurer.

Teen Mya is a senior at Savannah Early College and is the Senior Class President, a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and the National Society High School Scholars. Outside of the school walls, she is active in her church as a weekly Youth Volunteer. She also works with elementary school students through SCCPSS 21st Century After School Programs. Presently. When asked, what motivates her, she said, “The low statistics of my race for high school and college completion motivate me to finish high school and go on to college and graduate school.”

Top Teens of America is under the auspices of Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc. Lady Annette Mitchell is chapter President and Lady Jacquelyn Stephens is the chapter organizer.
