Students/Faculty At Beach High School Teams Up With C.O.P.E.

Students and Faculty at Beach High School are partnering with COPE to provide healthy foods for Beach parents and staff every 1st Thursday of the month. COPE (Childhood Obesity Prevention + Education) stands by a threefold approach to combating childhood obesity with behavioral health at the core of their efforts. COPE also offers obesity education and prevention programs to parents and caregivers so that the entire family can live healthy and lean together.

Students get to learn about healthy eating and healthy living. They also engage in customer service and soft skills while the senior students are earning their community service hours. There are no qualifi- cations to receive the items and it is absolutely free.

According to Sandy Baker, founder of COPE, they offer the only certified L.E.A.N. health coach in the Savannah area and the basis for their nutrition education is Traffic Light Eating. She says, “The relationship we have here at Beach is the most exciting due to the care and concern the principal and staff have for their students and parents. We hope to have this service available to the Hodge Elementary School and DeRenne Middle School which are feeder schools to Beach.”
