The Savannah State women’s golf team edged by Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival South Carolina State by two strokes on Thursday in a dual match at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah.
The Lady Tigers combined for a one-round team score of 364 to beat the Lady Bulldogs’ 366 mark. SSU junior Jocelyn Williams led SSU with an 83 (42, 41) for a third place finish. Candace Lewis finished behind Williams with an 86 (43, 43).
Michelle Gifford recorded a 97 (45, 52), followed by Courtney Newton (98). Bianca Anderson (102) rounded out the Lady Tigers’ team effort.
S.C. State’s Tiana Jones won the individual medalist honor with a 68 (35, 33). Cheryl Chua finished second with a 79 (41, 38). Cherie Chua tied with Williams in third with an 83 (41-41). The Lady Bulldogs’ Rebecca Dale finished the day with a 136, followed by Kailynn Cortez with a 137.
Playing in the individual bracket, SSU’s Abigale Drew carded a 104 (56, 48), followed by Cheyenne Willard (109) to finish 9th and 10th, respectively.
