Savannah State University men’s and women’s track and field teams recorded six top-five finishes on the final day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship Saturday.
The men’s track team recorded four top-five finishes. Sophomore Nigel Brown finished fifth in the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 21.35 after finishing fifth with a time of 21.18 in the preliminary round Thursday, while freshman Abbas Abbkar finished fourth in the 800-meter run finals with a time of 1:51.59 after setting the school record of 1:51.39 Friday.
Sophomore Morgan Ellis-Foster finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles finals with a time of 52.58 after finishing eighth in the preliminary round with a time of 52.76 Thursday to grab the final spot in the finals, while Savannah State’s 4×400-meter relay team of senior Justin Leggett, Ellis-Foster, Brown and junior Donterious Copeland finished fifth with a time of 3:12.11.
Men’s field team recorded one top-five finish. Junior Malik Franklin finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.28 meters (46-10.25), followed by junior Robert Simmons’ seventh place finish with a jump of 13.59 meters (44-11).
The women’s field team recorded the last top-five finish with junior Kourtney Sizemore’s fifth place finish with a time of 2.99 meters (9-9.75).
