SSU to Present Seminar on Making Smart Investments

Savannah State University (SSU) will offer a free seminar for individuals who want to learn more about investing in new or existing business ventures.

The seminar, “Why Smart People Make Dumb Investment Decisions,” will be held on March 19, 4-6 p.m., in the Jordan Building on the Savannah State campus.

“Almost everyone has been or will be asked to invest in a business owned by a relative or suggested by a friend,” said Ervin Williams, Ph.D., entrepreneur in-residence in the College of Business Administration at SSU who will conduct the seminar.

“The question is more likely in today’s economic climate because traditional financing sources are closed to most entrepreneurs.”

Rather than acting on emotions, Williams said the educational seminar will prepare individuals to make rational decisions about business investments.

Williams, who has opened nine ventures on three continents, is a member of the Ariel Savannah Angel Partners, LLC, a member-driven organization of experienced professionals from a wide range of industries who review, analyze and invest in early-stage, high-growth potential companies.

The seminar is based on his experience in assessing the viability and profitability of hundreds of entrepreneurial ventures.

The seminar is supported by the City of Savannah, the Savannah Economic Department and the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce.
