SSU Names Chief of Public Safety

Creighton Roberts has been named chief of Savannah State University’s (SSU) Department of Public Safety. Roberts’ promotion from deputy chief, the position he held since February 2006, was effective July 1.

As SSU’s deputy chief, Roberts managed the Patrol and the Criminal Investigation divisions as well as the daily operations of the department.

Prior to joining Savannah State, Roberts worked as a special agent with the department of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), a Field Operating Agency (FOA) of the United States Air Force that provides professional investigative services to commanders throughout the Air Force, from June 2001 to May 2005. During that period, he held several assignments, ending as Counter Intelligence Chief and Senior Criminal Investigator with AFOSI Detachment 804 Vandenberg AFB, California. Roberts served six years in the Georgia Air National Guard as a security forces specialist while employed with the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) in Savannah, Ga. Roberts began his career in law enforcement with the Glynn County Police Department in his hometown of Brunswick, Ga.

A certified Georgia Peace Officer since 1989, Roberts holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from St. Leo College.
