Five Savannah State football players were named to the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference team, while the Ti- gers as a team was picked to finish eighth in the race for the league title. Voting was done by MEAC head football coaches and sports information directors.
The listing of five players tabbed for preseason all conference honors were the most since 2013 and 2014 when they also had five players named to the list. And the predicted finish of eighth place was the best ever for SSU since they joined the MEAC.
Earning MEAC preseason all conference honors were defensive lineman Stefen Banks who made the first team while kicker Giovanni Lugo made the second team. Tight end and Savannah native Paris Baker made the third team as did defensive lineman Brandon Carswell and return specialist JaMichael Baldwin.
North Carolina A&T was picked to win the MEAC followed by Howard, North Carolina Central, Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M to round out the top five. Norfolk State was sixth, followed by South Carolina State, SSU, Morgan State and Delaware State.
