Ms. Julia Mae Cunningham the mother of Savannah High School athletic director and boy’s basketball coach Tum Jordan died on March 19, after a bout with cancer. Funeral services were held for Ms. Cunningham on March 25 at Ways Grove Baptist Church in Wrens, Georgia and Rev. Jimmy McCullough, III did the eulogy. Ms. Cunningham, 78, served as the church mother and also was the church secretary and sang in the choir. She was also the first African American to work at First State Bank.
Coach Jordan received a strong outpouring of support from his current and former players and coaches as well as college coaches, teammates and fraternity brothers. During the service, Jordan led a song with help from the male choir from Savannah’s St. Paul CME Church.
