Tigers Defeat

Benedict

10-8 Savannah State broke a 8-8 tie with a run in the 6th and another in the 9th to defeat Benedict 10-8 in Columbia on April 1. The game was tied at two when SSU scored six runs in the fourth to pull ahead but Benedict scored three runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game at eight. Dexter Kelley and Matt Nowacki each had two RBIs for SSU. The Tigers (15-16) dropped a double-header to Campbell on April 4 in Buies Creek, N.C., 12-10 and 18-1. In the first game SSU trailed 7-3 before taking a 10-7 lead in the fifth. In the second game, Campbell scored 10 runs in the second and never looked back. Jonathan Ross ended the day with seven hits.

SSU Runs In Florida

Relays

The Savannah State relay teams shined over the weekend grabbing 5th and 6th place finishes at the 65th Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville. The sprint medley team of Joe Ferguson, Eric Plump, Vernon Williams and Tyrone McCoy ran a time of 3:24.69 to finish 5th while the shuttle hurdle team of Marcus Stallworth, Aaron Whitaker, Darrell McElroy and Brandon Norman posted a time of 1:01.15 and placed 6th.

Savannah State Men Claim 4th In Bulldog

Classic

Corey Brown shot a twoday total of 147 to pace Savannah State to a 4th place finish in the 7th annual Bulldog Golf Classic hosted by South Carolina State in Orangeburg April 4 and 5. SSU finished with a two-day score of 621, one shot behind North Carolina Central. Houston Baptist won the tournament. The SSU women placed third in the SCSU Triangular behind Hampton and SC State. Vonnetta Epps shot a 209 for the SSU women.

SSU Sets Time For

Football Game

Savannah State has set kickoff times for home games during the 2009 football season. All home games, with the exception of Homecoming, will start at 5:00 p.m. Homecoming will start at 2:00 p.m. The Tigers have six home games this season: Alabama State (Sept. 12), North Greenville (Oct. 10), Bethune-Cookman (Oct. 17), Old Dominion (Oct. 24) and Webber International (Nov. 14). Edward Waters is the Homecoming foe (Oct. 31).
