Lady Warriors Seeking Players

The Savannah Lady Warriors semi-pro women’s basketball team is looking for players ages 19 and up to fill their roster for the 2015 season. Those interested can contact Curtis Foster (386-214-9993) or Tamara Bowie (1-561-445- 2103).

Drummond Named To Watch List

Savannah State senior Kris Drummond has earned a spot on the 2014 CFPA Tight End Award Watch List, as announced by College Football Performance Awards. The Washington, D.C. native had 23 receptions for 296 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers last season. For his career at SSU, Drummond has 57 receptions for 765 yards and three touchdowns. The initial watch list includes 36 returning performers, vying for the top tight end award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.

WSSU Picked To Win CIAA

At the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association 2014 Media Day, Winston-Salem State was picked to win the 2014 football crown. The event was held July 25 at the Durham Convention Center in North Carolina. The Rams were also picked to win the CIAA southern division, followed by Fayetteville State, Shaw, Johnson C. Smith, St. Augustine’s and Livingstone. Virginia State was selected to capture the northern division, followed by Elizabeth City State, Bowie State, Chowan, Virginia Union and Lincoln.

Tigers To Scrimmage August 9

The Savannah State football squad will hold their first preseason scrimmage on August 9. The scrimmage is tentatively set for 8 a.m. at T. A. Wright Stadium. SSU will have Picture Day at 3 p.m. on August 10. The team reported to campus on July 27 and there are about 88 players in preseason camp as they get ready for the 2014 season opener at Middle Tennessee State on August 30.
