SSU Boosters To Host Winter Homecoming Alumni After Party

The Savannah State Community Booster Club will be hosting the “Winter Homecoming Alumni After Party” on February16, 2013 from 10:00pm-2:00am in the King Frazier Ballroom. Tickets will be sold at the door. Prices are $20.00 for singles and $35.00 for couples. The ticket price includes drink tickets and food.

SSU Women Snap Losing Skid

Despite not making a field goal the final 6 minutes of the game, the Savannah State women’s basketball team snapped a six game losing streak with a 49-46 win over South Carolina State in Tiger Arena on February 9.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 9 points in the first half but SSU battled back and only trailed 23-18 at the break. SSU tied the game at 25 and was able to take a 40-33 lead with just over 6 minutes left. SSU trailed 46-45 but took the lead on 2 free throws by Erin Hogue and went ahead by 3 on a pair of free throws by Jasmine Norman. Hogue led SSU (7-15, 2-7) with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Tigers Hold Off SC State

Arnold Louis had 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead Savannah State to a 50-46 victory over a pesky South Carolina State team in Tiger Arena on February 9. The Bulldogs put forth a great effort. Ahead by one point with 33 seconds left, Preston Blackman hit 2 free throws for a 49-46 lead and Louis made a free throw with 3 seconds left for the 4 point win.

The game was tied at 27 at the half. SSU improves to 13-10 overall and 7-2 in the MEAC. On Feb. 7, SSU’s 7 game win streak came to an end after a 71-68 overtime loss to Hampton in Tiger Arena. SSU blew an 8 point lead and the game went into an extra period tied at 58. Louis led SSU with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Rashad Hassan added 17 points and 10 rebounds while Blackman chipped in 13 points.

SSU Spring Sports Wrap-Up

The Savannah State softball team got their season started with a double-header sweep of Morgan State on February 9 by scores of 8-0 and 10-2. SSU ran their record to 3-0 after a 7-5 win over Thomas on Feb. 10. However, the SSU win streak came to a end with a 10-4 loss to USC-Beaufort later in the afternoon.

The SSU tennis team opened the season with a 6-1 win over Albany State on Feb. 1 but loss to Presbyterian 7-0 on Feb. 5 and fell to Coastal Carolina 7-0 on Feb. 9
