SSU To Have Orange & Blue Game

The Savannah State football team will bring to an end spring football drills with the annual Orange & Blue Scrimmage. Over 70 players are participating in spring drills in hopes to improve on last season’s 1-10 record. the scrimmage will start at 6 p.m.

Curtis Wins Another Award

The awards keep coming for Shaw women’s basketball coach Jacques Curtis. This time, the Savannah native has been named the winner of the second annual Clarence “Big House” Gaines Award presented to the top minority basketball coaches in Division I and II. The Gaines Awards are named for legendary Winston-Salem State University head men’s basketball coach Clarence ‘Big House’ Gaines, who during his 47 season as WSSU’s head coach won more than 800 games. The award will

be presented to the Savannah State graduate on June 11 at the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association banquet in Salisbury, NC.

Hampton AD Steps Down

Hampton University’s athletics director has stepped down after less than a year on the job. Keshia Campbell has stepped down for personal reasons, effective immediately. During her tenure, Hampton won MEAC championships in women’s cross country, women’s indoor track and field and women’s basketball. The university will conduct a national search for a replacement. Dr. Rodney Smith, the school’s vice president for administrative services, will serve as interim athletics director.

FVSU To Have Blue & Gold Scrimmage

The Fort Valley State football team will have their annual Blue & Gold scrimmage on April 14 at 6 p.m. in Wildcat Stadium. Admission to the game is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for non-FVSU students and military personnel with proper identification. FVSU students with proper identification are admitted free of charge. All proceeds from the scrimmage game benefit FVSU Athletics.

ASU To Have Fundraiser

The 9th Annual Golden Rams Golf Outing will be held at the Flint River Golf Course in Albany, Ga. Tee time for the two-person scramble is 8 a.m. The golf outing is held annually to benefit the Albany State football program. The entry fee is $100 per team and can be paid during registration, which starts at 7 a.m. The fee includes green fees, cart and lunch. Hole sponsorships are $250 per hole.
