Morgan State 44 Savannah State 17

Seth Higgins passed for 239 yards and 4 touchdowns to lead Morgan State to a homecoming win over Savannah State (1-5) at Hughes Stadium before a crowd of 14,356. SSU trailed 7-0 but a 30 yard touchdown pass from AJ DeFilippis to Simon Heyward tied the game in the first quarter. A 47 yard field goal by Derek Williams pulled the Tigers within 14-10 with just over three minutes left before halftime. The Bears (3-3) broke open the game by outscoring SSU 27-7 in the second half. DeFilippis scored on a one yard run with 1:09 left in the third quarter to cut SSU’s deficit to 31-17. DeFilippis passed for 141 yards, Justin Babb ran for 16 and Alakan Thomas caught 5 passes for 57 yards. Broadric Sellars had 12 tackles for the Tigers defense.

Howard 29 FAMU 28

Howard scored 29 points in the fourth quarter as the Bison spoiled Florida A&M’s homecoming at

Bragg Stadium before 23,400 fans. The Rattlers (3-3) led 21-0 at the half before Howard scored their first touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Howard cut their deficit to 28-21 with 26 seconds remaining and Parker Munoz kicked the game winning 21 yard field goal with four seconds remaining to give the Bison (3-3) the win. The Howard defense held FAMU to just 27 yards rushing. Greg McGhee passed for 233 yards and two touchdowns for Howard while Damien Fleming threw for 158 yards and two touchdowns for FAMU.

Lane 26 Albany State 24

Lane defeated Albany State

for the first time in school history in front of 1,078 fans in Jackson, Tennessee. The Dragons scored first but ASU rallied to take a 21-20 halftime edge. Lane went ahead 26-21 in the third quarter and the Rams could only muster a 40 yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. McKinsley Marbury led Lane with 142 passing yards and a touchdown and 142 rushing yards and three scores.

SSU Men Release Basketball Schedule

The Savannah State men’s basketball team will tip of the 2011-12 season on November 11 on the road at Georgetown. The Tigers will play their first home game on Nov. 16 against Jacksonville. SSU will have 15 home games that include Georgia Tech, Coastal Georgia, Mt. St. Mary’s, Coppin State, Morgan State, South Carolina State, Stetson, Howard, Trinity Baptist, Texas A&MCorpus Christi, Florida A&M, Bethune-Cookman, North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T. Other road games include Indiana, Butler, Wisconsin and Arkansas.
