SSU Track Wins Five Events

The Savannah State track team won five events on April 8 at the Carolinas Cup hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, SC. The SSU women won three events while the men won two. The women’s 4x400m relay team won as well as Amara Jones (200m) and Amber Hughes (triple jump). Eric Plump won the men’s 100m and 200m races for the Tigers. SSU finished second in six events and took third place in four races.

SSU Spring Game Is April 14

The Savannah State football team will have their annual Orange and Blue Spring football game on April 14 at 6pm on the SSU practice field. First year head coach Steve Davenport and his staff are installing a spread offense and multiple defensive sets to prepare for the 2011 season.

SSU Sports Banquet Is April 13

The annual Savannah State athletic banquet is set for April 13 T 5:30 pm in Tiger Arena. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in the SSU athletic office located in Tiger Arena.

Tigers Sweep FAMU

The Savannah State baseball team ran their winning streak to five games by completing a three-game sweep of Florida A&M over the weekend at Tiger Field. The Tigers won a double-header on April 9 by scores of 6-5 and 3-2 and pounded the Rattlers 12- 4 on April 10. Kevin Herlihy struck out six in game one while Kyle McGowin fanned eight in the nightcap. In the third game, five SSU pitchers combined to limit FAMU to just two hits. SSU now owns a 20-15 record.

SSU Softball Downs Shaw

India Morgan hit a grandslam to lead Savannah State (13-23) to a double-header win over Shaw at the Paulson Complex on April 10. Morgan hit a solo home run in a 10-0 win and then blasted a grand-slam in the second game, a 12-4 win. Madison Hedderly tossed a two hitter while striking out eight while Tiffany Davies struck out four in the second game while driving in four runs at the plate.
