Fort Valley State 41, Savannah State 10

Fort Valley State turned four Savannah State turnovers into 24 points as the Wildcats defeated SSU before a crowd of 4,182 fans at the 8th Music City Classic played at Macon’s Henderson Stadium. The Tigers (0-2) jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to a 21 yard interception return for a touchdown by Cedric Chambers and a 43 yard field goal by Derek Williams. FVSU (2-1) responded with 13 second quarter points to take a 13-10 halftime lead. The Wildcats led 27-10 in the third but a pair of 4th quarter touchdowns sealed the win for the Peach County school. J. Vince Cochran had 12 tackles for the Tigers. AJ DeFilippis passed for 71 yards, Justin Babb ran for 65 and Brian Lackey caught three balls for 54 yards. SSU had just 131 yards of offense while the Division II Wildcats had 345.

Albany State 28, Clark Atlanta 13

Albany State held Clark Atlanta to just 50 yards of offense as the Rams downed CAU (1-1) in Albany before a crowd of 3,297. ASU scored the game’s first points when quarterback Stan Jennings found LiRonnie Davis for a 19-yard touchdown pass. Clark Atlanta’s defense would respond with two touchdowns, including a 25- yard interception return by Darel Strong and a 42-yard fumble return by Dominic Hughes, to give the Panthers a 13-7 lead midway through the third quarter. The Rams (2-0) would respond with a 17-yard touchdown run by Stan Jennings to take 14-13 lead. ASU running back Robert Welton would put the game away with two 26-yard touchdown runs to give the Golden Rams the 15 point win. ASU’s Robert Welton rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns. CAU’s Harrison Porter led all tacklers with 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss.

Hampton 31, Howard 21

David Legree passed for two touchdowns as Hampton scored 24 straight points to defeat Howard before a crowd of 7,086 at Green Stadium in Washington, DC. After Terrance Leffall put the Bison ahead 14-7 with 2:46 left in the second quarter, Legree’s 28-yard touchdown pass to Dyril McCain tied the game with 1:27 to go. Javaris Brown’s 4-yard run put the Pirates ahead early in the third quarter, and Legree’s 8- yard touchdown pass to Donte Davis gave Hampton (1-1) a 28-14 lead. Legree completed 13 of 25 passes for 133 yards and rushed seven times for 62 yards. Casey Council had 83 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries for Howard (0-2).

Morehouse 49, Lane 6

Morehouse led 33-0 at halftime and went on to cruise to a lopsided win over Lane before a crowd of 5,123 at BT Harvey Stadium in Atlanta. Morehouse led 10-0 after the first quarter and scored 23 points in the second frame. After three quarters, Morehouse (3-0) had a commanding 35-0 advantage. The Dragons scored a touchdown with just under eight minutes left in the game but Morehouse answered with a touchdown with 1:18 remaining. Morehouse had a balanced offensive attack, gaining 280 yards while their defense held Lane (0-3) to just 10 yards of offense.
