The men’s and women’s bowling teams from The Savannah College of Art & Design won the 2019 NAIA Invitational National Championship. The accomplishment took place in late May in Topeka, Kansas.
The men, who were seeded seventh going into match play, defeated Martin Methodist (3-0) in the first round and then went on to defeat William Penn (3-1), Hastings (3-0) and St. Francis (3-2) in the following rounds to earn a spot in the Championship Final.
In the finals against Concordia, SCAD fell in the first best of five match 3-1 but made some adjustments and managed a 3-0 sweep to earn the title.
The SCAD women, who entered the tournament with a third seed, received a first round bye. The Bees won their first match against Hastings (3-2). In the fourth-round the Bees upset No. 2 Pikeville (3-1 ) before losing their first match of the Championships to No. 1 Indiana Tech (3-1). In round seven, SCAD defeated William Penn (3-2) to earn their way into the Championship Final.
The Bees faced Indiana Tech in the finals. In order to win, SCAD had to defeat Indiana Tech twice, in which they did, 3-0 and 3-2.
